ARIANA HARLEY LYONELL THE BASIC INFORMATION FULL NAME Ariana Harley Lyonell NICKNAMES Ari GENDER Female AGE & BIRTH Nineteen, October 13th SEXUALITY Heterosexual CLASS Upper Class PLAYED BY Betty Autier THE PERSONALITY This pint-sized girl is likely one of the craziest people you'll ever meet. Born to a high class European family, she has never been one to act overly well-mannered and proper. As a child, she tried to be a people pleaser. She wanted to live up to the standards set by her seemingly perfect older sister, but her efforts were often met by disappointment. Being reprimanded eventually became old, and though it took a little while, she found out that the only person she needs to please is herself. If anyone ever asked her about it, she'd admit that she finds that without the pressure of striving to be a pleaser, she does much better in whatever it is she’s attempting to accomplish. Ari is also the type of girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. In most cases, she's rather friendly and social, but if she doesn't like someone, she won't exactly say so, but her cold looks and hostile air are a clear enough hint. Her inability to mask her negative feelings can often lead to conflicts, and she has no problem with picking fights. Her small size and stature aren't necessarily suitable for physical altercations, but she'll gladly last out and flee when necessary. On the other hand, when she likes someone, she can be a little clingy. She likes hugs and cuddles, and she'll gladly bat her eyelashes at boys who have caught her attention. Ironically, she's not very good at picking up hints herself. She tends to be selectively dense, and when she chooses to block something out, it's necessary to just directly tell her what's going on. Due to her own experience of being judged and teased for her ‘unique’ interests and likes, Ari’s not very judgmental and accepts a lot of things that others may find shocking or startling. She has a morbid fascination for topics that others usually shy away from or deem taboo such as death and tragedy. Though secretive and insecure about her dark nature at first, she’s become very confident as the years have passed and is learning to accept her own individuality rather than reject it, therefore she is more than happy to help others do the same (that is, show their true colours), giving them proper support and reliability. Ariana fancies studying up on different philosophies and figuring out her own opinions in response. She also enjoys history a great deal, finding that certain historical figures could be admired for certain characteristics even if they went about achieving their goals in the wrong way, also opting to analyze their actions and mindsets for her own amusement. She likes the abstract and finds that concrete facts or methods are dull and boring. In her opinion, writing and art can be extremely abstract and therefore allows for a variety of interpretations. In fact, it was this love for interpretation that led Ariana to a desire to act and be onstage. When acting, analysis of the character is left to the actress, which she greatly enjoys exercising the right of. Whenever there's news of a play that may be held, she's eager to flip through the script, taking in and analyzing each and every character available. Afterwards, she decides which character she would most enjoy playing the role of. Someday, she'd like to become an actress, but if that fails, she has a back-up plan to become a photographer. She enjoys photography almost as much as acting, and she has no problem making something else the center of attention if she can't be it. Lastly, Ariana is a very picky person. She’s nearly a perfectionist with her meticulous ways, constantly trying to improve every minor thing. Some people may enjoy just focusing on the big picture, but her attention is almost always on the finer details of life. In a certain way, this likely ties into her love for free interpretation. One example would be that while most actors and actresses focus on the role of a character in general, she tries to really get into the mindset of the character. Just getting a part isn’t enough. She wants and needs to excel and really shine out onstage. Beginning from her birth into her childhood, she's never gotten along with her parents particularly well. Her parents had set the bar high for her and expected her to be a classy girl because they were quite proud of the way their elder daughter turned out. She brought home perfect grades, was a socialite at school, and excelled in sports. However, the younger of the two sisters always fell short of expectations, and being greeted by constant disappointment rather than any sort of praise had a tendency to take a rather large toll on her ego. Some of Ariana's earliest memories revolve around pushing herself harder and harder because she wanted to make someone proud. She sought anyone's approval and became increasingly competitive in the process. As a result, she spent her time with her head buried in books. Though that certainly aided in giving her grades a boost, her constant preoccupation led her to stay indoors as a recluse lacking in athleticism. Years passed, and as one would expect, her relentless desire to seek approval eventually took its toll. While in school, she fainted due to malnourishment because she spent a few days refusing food and functioning on very little rest. She stayed in the hospital for a few days, and when she was eventually discharged, her parents sat her down for a long, serious talk. They told her that she needed to take her health in consideration when she acted. Though they certainly meant well, she couldn't help but to get this feeling that this was the end. She had tried her absolute very best, but she still failed to impress them. The thought was upsetting, but there was also something comforting about knowing that she no longer had to strain herself. So perhaps things hadn't gone according to plan, but now that it was done and over with, she had no reason to try so hard. She obviously wasn't happy with her life, so it was time that she did something she liked so that she could bask in self-satisfaction. For a while, this was a conundrum for the girl. So much of her time had been spent being a people-pleaser that Ari wasn't sure what she liked outside of receiving praise. It took time, but she experimented with all sorts of hobbies, looking for something that would stick. She consequentially strayed off onto her own path, taking an interest in things that were abstract and allowed for unrestrained interpretation, as well as well as photography, drama, and acting. She found that she took an interest in darker things such as death, witchcraft, and horror. Unfortunately, her family and peers didn't react particularly well to how unconventional she was becoming. When her parents were married, it wasn't a mere matter of falling in love. Though love was a part of it, their family backgrounds also mattered. They both functioned under a social hierarchy and came from the high class part of society. It was pleasant to have fallen in love with one another because it made marriage all the more desirable, but when one subtracted emotion out of the equation, they were made for each other simply due to the fact that they were of an equal social standing. Appearances were undeniably important, and as a result, they weren't very happy with how Ari was changing. In addition, because she came from old money, she attended a school with snobby kids from families likely as rich as her family was. Their lives revolved around gossip, posh parties, and making connections. There was no way they would react well to the fact that they had this girl in their presence that opposed everything they were used to. They began to make her an outcast, frequently picking on her for her interests. Not being one to get pushed around, Ari readily retorted with equal distaste, making her school years extremely tumultuous. By the time she was eighteen, she was ready to leave home. After having made it through high school (with only one attempt at running away, which she'll proudly tell you about), she was ready to get out of her hometown for someplace new and different. She was tired of being the constant subject of gossip mills, and she was sick of constantly having an article dedicated to some other made up scandal she was involved in written in the society papers. Though her parents were worried about letting her leave at first, she eventually ended up getting permission. She threw a dart into map and decided she'd go wherever it landed. After pinpointing approximately where the dart landed, she went with what she decided and headed off to Caroline, armed with nothing but a suitcase full of her belongings and a credit card backed by her parents' money. Though being in Caroline and relying on her parents indirectly isn't really the way she envisioned independence would be, Ariana finds that she likes the change in surroundings. She resides along MayDay Drive in a fancy flat that her parents chose for her, and she lives off of her parents' money, but she likes that they're no longer watching over her every move, and she's determined to get herself at some point soon.
