OLIVER RHYS CARDINAL THE BASIC INFORMATION FULL NAME Oliver Rhys Cardinal NICKNAMES Oliver, occasionally Ollie by his boyfriend GENDER Male AGE & BIRTH Twenty-two, January 3 SEXUALITY Homosexual CLASS Middle PLAYED BY Ryan Ross THE PERSONALITY Oliver is, outwardly, a stereotypical gay boy. He likes wearing outrageous clothes and putting on makeup and being adorable. He is excitable and enthusiastic about almost everything. He can be shy around some people (namely boys he finds attractive as well as people he knows to be homophobic), but for the most part, he wears his heart on his sleeve and is willing to tell anyone anything. He likes making people laugh and he always has a story or a joke at the ready. It takes a lot to set Oliver off, but when he’s in a bad mood, you’ll know it. He’s not afraid of crying in public, though most of the time when he’s crying it’s out of frustration rather than sadness. When he’s upset, he becomes rather rigid and stony and typically won’t talk to anyone. The silence is preferable, however, because he can get rather vicious and cruel if he does speak. He’s rather petite, but he can yell like you wouldn’t believe. If he’s angry, he tries to break people down. His negative emotions are contagious and he likes it that way, because he wants other people to suffer when he’s not feeling his best. Oliver also has a tendency to go a bit wild in his free time. He does cocaine and drinks rather frequently. At these times, his negative side is magnified. He has rather strong mood swings, and can go from laughing to screaming in a matter of seconds. Oliver can also get violent and has been known to start hitting or verbally attacking whoever is around at the time. No matter what happens when he’s under the influence, though, he always claims he can’t remember when he sobers up. Whether or not this is true is something that only Oliver knows, and he’s not telling. When Oliver gets involved in something, he puts himself fully into it. This includes things such as relationships and jobs, as well as menial things like making breakfast or watching a series on television. He won’t cheat in a monogamous relationship. He’ll show up to work on time every day and do the best he can at what he’s paid to do. And he’ll make you the best damn omelette you’ve ever had while not missing a single moment of the new episode of Supernatural. He’s dedicated, pure and simple. Finally, Oliver is confident. He loves himself and he wants others to know how great he is. It comes off as being arrogant and cocky a lot of the time but he doesn’t mean it that way. He just has great self-esteem, even though it makes him overrate himself. FAMILY TIES & HISTORY MOTHER Eloise Marie Crawford, 45 FATHER Anthony Rhys Cardinal, 48 SIBLINGS Penelope “Penny” Elizabeth Cardinal, 18 OTHER None STORY Born in Caroline, Oliver came bursting into the world in a shower of rainbow glitter and fabulous scarves. Both his parents came from strict Catholic backgrounds, but rebelled as teenagers and joined the Pride movement. They met at a gay rights rally and fell in love and had a wedding with a drag queen for a maid of honor. They’ve always made it clear to Oliver that he could be whoever he wanted to be, whether that was a boy who liked girls, a girl who liked boys, a boy who liked boys, a girl who liked girls, or something anywhere else on the spectrum. Outsiders from the family thought that their encouragement to love who he wanted to love was going to ‘make’ him gay, but Eloise and Anthony didn’t care and loved their son no matter who he had a crush on that week. As a child, Oliver went through a lot of phases. He’d like a girl one day and a boy the next and labeled himself as bisexual since age six. As he grew up, his crushes would last longer. No sooner would he decide he was straight because he’d liked only girls for the past several months than a new boy would sit in front of him in class and he’d fall hard. More than just his sexual orientation varied through the ages, though. His taste in clothes had more changes than his parents could afford, so he decided to compromise and wear anything he could get his hands on. Middle school was when kids stopped thinking his behavior was cute and innocent and they started attacking him for it. “Why do you wear makeup? Are you a girl? Should we call you Olive now?” they would ask him. Instead of letting it bother him, though, he would just continue to be himself. If things got too bad, he knew a few good swearwords that could keep them at bay. By high school, Oliver’s eccentricities had been accepted. The boys stopped trying to beat it out of him and the girls would come up shyly and ask for makeup advice. His sexual orientation was still questionable, but he wasn’t having crushes every day anymore. He strutted down the halls, talking to anyone who would listen and wearing whatever he had found in the back of his closet. High school held some of the best times of his life. It was also when he started using drugs. Oliver doesn’t see his use as an addiction. It isn’t a deep, dark secret that he hides from the world. He accepts that cocaine and everything else is illegal and shouldn’t have been done by seventeen year olds, but he likes the high. He didn’t start drinking until he was legal, but his drug habit didn’t die out when the drinking began. Thus far in his life, he’s done pretty well with controlling his vices and not letting them take over his life, but they have made him do some things he would regret if he remembered/admitted remembering.
